The guy or girl who first coined the phrase, Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me, must not have cared very much…

I was struck by the power of words this weekend.
Words can be destructive. They can spread hate, ugliness and untruths. They can deceive, deny, and generally tear a person down. They can keep people from using them back.
Words can also be constructive. They can relate ideas, tell stories of greatness, and build bridges across chasms of misunderstanding. They can recognize exceptional effort and motivate people to do extraordinary things.
Words are powerful, but deep down they’re still just words. They serve as the vehicles to our messages. They are inanimate objects that contain no positive or negative energy in and of themselves.
So how can words be both powerful and powerless at the same time?
Relationships.
