Something awesome happened to me tonight while cruising my reader. It started when I came across a super cool post on music being chicken soup for the mind. Fred Lee from Health Hacks wrote: Music Is Good For Your Brain, which linked to this post from CNN called: Music a ‘mega-vitamin’ for the brain.
Both posts discuss the positive effects that singing and listening to music have on the brains of individuals. I understand that some studies have been accomplished, and that others have yet to be accomplished. However, just thinking about the power of music to possibly counteract the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease or Parkinson’s Disease is enough to inspire me to share the link on Twitter.
Where is the AWESOME?
What was awesome was that two of my Twitter friends responded within close proximity of my tweet. Jim Hoff retweeted the message and Susan Etlinger asked if I’d watched Oliver Sacks on the Daily Show this week. I hadn’t, so I did. Thanks again, Susan. :)
I’m wondering if that is how the next generation web will play out. I surf around a bit, find something I like, share it with my network, and get instant feedback from my network. And by instant feedback, I mean human response as opposed to some suggestion algorithm.
It was a great feeling to have someone I had met and talked to recommend content so that I could continue my exploration of a topic of interest, with a new path to go down. It was even cooler that it happened in real time. What do you think about it? Can you see the value in getting the info hook-up from a friend? What do you think of the study of music and your brain?
