Because my time is limited (personal limitation) in being able to check Twitter (maybe 30 mins a day now) I only follow about 20 people right now. Some are personal friends, some are colleagues and some are celebs/musicians. I tried following people like Chris Brogan, but he tweets so much that I couldn't keep up with everything. I don't use my phone to keep up with Twitter, because if I did, I'd probably get fired for lack of productivity. My ADD wouldn't do well with following Twitter all day long. I'm just a recreational user at this point and really haven't started using it as creatively as a lot have. So, after all that, I don't think I can offer any advice for you, because I can't empathize with your situation.
