I came across this David Armano article in The Harvard Business Review today: Six Social Media Trends for 2010 and I just wanted to talk about three predictions that David makes and how they relate to one another.
First off, I work in a large organization and think that David’s insights are right on. I got to meet him briefly at BlogWorld Expo and even though he wasn’t down with the man-hug, he is one cool guy. Here are three great points from his post:
– Corporations look to scale
– Your company will have a social media policy
– Sharing no longer means E-mail
What I Really Like About These
I really like the idea of large companies breaking down interdepartmental barriers through the use of social tools. I also really like the idea of large companies breaking down external barriers with their customer base through the use of social tools.
To me, the key to both of these walls breaking down is the concept of sharing in public. I wrote about the Dachis Group, Armano’s employer, doing this a couple weeks back and it’s a theme that I touched on just yesterday as well.
I don’t think that it can be overstated. Sharing information publicly is better than sharing information point to point.
If it’s in a public stream I can either A. see it as it hits me if I’m subscribed to you or B. search for it at my convenience. The policy and the training need to come into play because this is drastically different then the point to point communications we’ve all become accustomed to via telephone and E-mail.
So how is your business becoming social?
